Medical Deferment
The medical deferment is used to help students deal with medical issues that prevent attendance during an assigned semester. Consecutive deferments are usually not allowed.
Medical deferments must be submitted before the last day to drop classes without receiving grades earned. To verify this date for the current semester, please contact the Student Records and Registration Office at (208) 496-1000.
Qualifications:
- Be a BYU-Idaho full-time, degree seeking student.
- Attend semesters of your track prior to and after deferred semester.
- Be ecclesiastically endorsed.
- Have a verifiable medical condition that prevents attendance.
- Submit completed deferment form to the BYU-Idaho Admissions Office. Address and fax information are found on the contacts link at the top right of this page.
Apply for Deferment by:
- Complete page 1 of the Medical Enrollment Deferment Application form.
- Have your campus bishop complete the endorsement on page 2 of the deferment form.
- Have your doctor/counselor fill out the Medical Condition Verification Form found below and submit this form with the Medical Enrollment Deferment Application form.
International Students should not complete this form without contacting BYU-Idaho International Services Office at (208) 496-1320.
Once your deferment is accepted or denied you will receive a notification letter.
