Part-Time Students

Part-Time Students (Matriculated)

Part-Time students are considered as matriculated (degree-seeking) students. Part-Time students may take a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester. Applicants may apply to be Part-Time students if they are not enrolled on a track at BYU-Idaho, have not received a Bachelor's degree or higher, and meet any of the following criteria:

  • Married
  • 25 years of age or older
  • Single parent

Non-Matriculating (Non-degree seeking) Students

Non-Matriculating students are considered to be non-degree seeking students and are not eligible to earn a degree through this admission status. Non-Matriculating students may take a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester. Applicants may apply to be Non-Matriculating students if they are not enrolled on a track at BYU-Idaho and meet any of the following criteria:

  • Have earned a Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Married
  • 25 years of age or older
  • Single parent

Maintaining Enrollment

Part-Time students and Non-Matriculating students are required to enroll each semester (excluding Summer Session) with no break. If a student does not enroll in any courses in a semester while on Part-Time or Non-Matriculating status, their admission will be dropped and they will be required to reapply if they desire to come back to BYU-Idaho.

Required Application Materials

  • Part 1 Student Information
  • Part 2 School Selection
  • Part 3 Ecclesiastical Endorsement
  • $35 Application Fee (if applicant has never applied to Ricks College or BYU-Idaho.)

Financial Aid:

Non-Matriculating students are not eligible for financial aid. Part-Time students may qualify for financial aid if they do not already have a Bachelor's degree. To be considered for financial aid, submit the following to the Admissions Office in addition to the Part-Time/Non-Matriculating application:

  • High School Transcript
  • College Transcripts

You will also need to fill out a FAFSA form, obtainable at the BYU-Idaho Student Financial Aid Office or at their Web site, www.byui.edu/financialaid. If you have any questions regarding financial aid, contact Student Financial Aid at (208) 496-1600.

Deadlines and Processing:

There are no deadlines for Part-Time applicants; however, class availability is limited. Because acceptance as a Part-Time student is based on available space, admission decisions for Part-Time applicants typically are only given two to three weeks in advance of the requested semester. Admission decisions for Non-Matriculating applicants are usually available within one week of submitting the application. Students interested in priority registration are encouraged to consider applying for full-time status. Please ensure all application materials are received in the Admissions office at least one week prior to the desired registration date.
