Missionary Options

Preparing to Leave:  BYU-Idaho’s atmosphere provides a great environment for development of skills, knowledge, and abilities that will enhance your missionary service. The following options are available to help you make the most of your time as you prepare.

  • Deferments: Submitting an LDS Mission Deferment will preserve your enrollment and scholarships at BYU–Idaho so you can return to BYU-Idaho on the same track without having to reapply after your mission. To review the full requirements of deferment and print the LDS Mission Deferment form, visit www.byui.edu/admissions/students/current/missdeferment.shtml.
  • Prospective Missionary Program: If your first off-track semester will occur before you leave on your mission, you may be able to attend select classes during that semester through the Prospective Missionary Program (PMP). This program does not allow you to take full-time day classes during that semester or change your track. To learn more about PMP, please visit http://www.byui.edu/continuing-education/prospective-missionary-program.
  • Continuing Education: BYU-Idaho’s Office of Continuing Education provides evening and online classes to students during their off-track semesters. To learn more about how Continuing Education can help you get ahead, visit www.byui.edu/ce.

Coming Home:  : BYU-Idaho greatly values the strength, maturity, and skills of returned missionaries. The following programs can be very useful in helping recently returned missionaries get into school more quickly and accelerate their progress to graduation.

  • Returning Missionary Program: :
    • Option A: New Applicants: The Returning Missionary Program (RMP) allows applicants who have served a full mission to apply to the first available semester after their return even after standard application deadlines have passed. All other admission requirements must be met. An appeal must be submitted to be considered for the deadline waiver.
    • Option B: Current BYU-Idaho Students: If you are already an admitted BYU-Idaho student and the first semester after your return is your off-track semester, you are eligible to receive a one-time override to attend that semester by appealing through the Returning Missionary Program. Your track assignment does not change.

For more information about the Returning Missionary Program and appealing for consideration through this program, please visit www.byui.edu/admissions/students/programs/rm-program.shtml.

  • Fast Grad: The Fast Grad enables BYU-Idaho students to attend all year round to accelerate their progress toward graduation. For requirements and more information, visit www.byui.edu/admissions/students/programs/fastgrad.shtml.
  • Continuing Education: BYU-Idaho’s Office of Continuing Education provides evening and online classes to students during their off-track semesters. To learn more about how Continuing Education can help you get ahead, visit www.byui.edu/ce.
