Take time

As I complete three years on the Wellness Committee, I appreciate the opportunity that I have had of working with the fine people that have served with me. I am grateful for your participation in the various fairs, brown bags, and activities we have sponsored. There have been several things that I have been thinking about lately in regards to wellness and as a final article I would just like to share some of those with you.

Take time for exercise: Allow yourself the opportunity to exercise on a regular basis. Do what you can do, don't overdo it, and most importantly enjoy it. The only person you are competing against is yourself. How fast someone else can run, how long someone else can run will have absolutely no impact on your health or wellness. Exercise for you.

Take time to relax: I notice that way too many people are way too busy. Allow yourself time every day for things that you want to do. Whether it is walking, painting, singing, reading, gardening, playing with your children. Make sure you spend some time on you - DAILY.

Take time to serve: Look for opportunities to serve others. I especially mean in the small ways. Help someone with their coat, hold the door for ten people and smile at each one, sincerely compliment others, sweep the sand (it's every-where) off your neighbors' sidewalk. The more small things we do for others, the bigger the impact.

Take time for gratitude: Make sure to express appreciation daily for what you have and for what others do for you. We need to take time to pray regularly. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone that has had a positive influence in your life? If your parents are still alive, call them today and thank them for al they have done for you. Thank your students for the things you learn from them.

Take time to listen: Listen for five minutes, without interruption, to your spouse, your children, your students, nature, the Savior. Good luck in your wellness endeavors.
