Communication Department Scholarships

DEADLINE JULY 18, 2011

The Deseret Management Corporation Scholarship is a full tuition scholarship for Communication majors. The application and all required attachments must be submitted to the Department of Communication (Spori 229) by 5 p.m. July 18, 2011.

Elegibility Requirements:

1. Currently enrolled, full-time student in good standing at BYU-Idaho

2. Total credits earned toward graduation are 130 credit hours or less

3. Overall GPA is 3.0 or better

4. Applicants must be enrolled in Sprin 2011 or Fall 2011

Scholarship Details and Specific Requirements

Desert News Scholarship

For print/multimedia journalism students who show the desire, aptitude and ability to practice journalism that follows professional standards and principles adhered to by The Desert News. With application, students must submit a personal letter explaining the reasons for applying for this scholarship. In addition, the student must submit a portfolio showing evidence of quality reporting and writing that demonstrate professionalism and ethical standards.

KSL Scholarship

For broadcast journalism students who show the desire, aptitude and ability to practice journalism that follows professional standards and principles adhered to by the KSL news division. With application, student must submit a personal letter explaining the reasons for applying for this scholarship. In addition, the student must submit a performance reel showing evidence of quality reporting or producing that demonstrate professionalism and ethical standards.

Desert Book Scholarship

For strategic communication students who show the scholastic ability, professional performance, and desire to practice strategic communications upon graduation. With application, student must submit a personal letter explaining the reasons for applying for this scholarship. In addition, the student must submit a portfolio showing evidence of excellent planning and execution of strategic communications plans.

Desert Digital Media Scholarship

For new media students who evidence strog interest, ability and application of digital media in communications. With application, student must submit a personal letter explaining the reasons for applying for this scholarship. In addition, the student must submit a portfolio of digital media products that show evidence of quality use of digital media for communication purposes.
