Maximum Annual Loan Limits for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans

1st Year (Freshman)

$5,500 - No more than $3,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

$9,500 - No more than $3,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

2nd Year (Sophmore)

$6,500 - No more than $4,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

$10,500 - No more than $4,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

3rd Year and 4th Years (Junior and Senior) 

$7,500 (each year) - No more than $5,500 (each year) of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

$12,500 (each year) - No more than $5,500 (each year) of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

Maximum total debt from Stafford Loans when you graduate

$31,000 - No more than $23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

$57,500 - No more than $23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans.

 

 

For periods of study shorter than an academic year, the amounts you can borrow will be less than those listed.  Remember that you might receive less if you receive other financial aid that's used to cover a portion of your cost of attendance.

 

Loan proceeds will be delivered to students in a minimum of two disbursements (generally one each semester/term). We are required to release your loan money to your account in two near equal amounts. The first disbursement is released at the beginning of your loan period and the second disbursement at the midpoint of your loan period.
