Grace Period

The borrower will enter repayment, six months after graduation, leaving school, or dropping below half-time enrollment. This six-month period of time is called the "grace period". During the grace period the government pays the interest on Subsidized Direct Loans. Unsubsidized Direct Loan borrowers do not have to make principal payments during the grace period but are responsible for paying all the interest that accrues to the loan.
