The twenty-forth annual Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) Career Days was held March 7-10 at Mississippi State University. Ricks College Horticulture Department took fourteen students and three faculty to the Olympic-type competition.

Ricks College placed third in overall team competition beating out such national competitors as Penn State, Colorado State, North Carolina State, Ohio State, and others. Only the well-respected California schools of Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo performed better. Ricks Team member, Aaron John said, "It was the highlight of my professional career so far".

Maria Adams placed second in both the interior landscape, and exterior landscape design contests. The team of Kyle Schneider and Dan Southwick placed first in the equipment maintenance operations. Aaron John placed third in sprinkler design, Don Jackson and David Herrera's team placed third in wood construction.

"Our strength was that we had no weak-links, every team member did there part to contribute to our success". - Byron John
