Auditorium construction progressing
as expected
BYU-Idaho's new auditorium is on track for completion during Fall Semester 2010, and it shows. Construction crews recently completed the finish on the exterior walls, making the auditorium look more like a finished building than a construction site.
The auditorium, located immediately south of the John W. Hart Physical Education Building, will provide seating for 15,000 people. Crews are preparing to pour the concrete for chairs on the main level, and the mechanical system is being tested to ensure proper climate control. Plumbing and electrical crews are also making progress and are on track to finish the auditorium next year.
The auditorium will be used primarily for events already held on campus, such as devotionals and commencement ceremonies.
The building will also include a multi-use space equivalent in size to ten basketball courts. This space will be used for a variety of events, including sports, recreational, social, and other activities. The multi-use area will provide space for various academic needs as well. In addition, an enclosed pedestrian bridge will connect the auditorium building to the Hart Building.
