What is the vision for online learning at BYU-Idaho?

We are charged with delivering online education sufficient to enroll 20% more students at BYU-Idaho. We anticipate hiring and retaining several hundred part-time online faculty over the next few years. We are also piloting several other modes of online instruction that may be utilized to extend education to even more students. 

 

How do I know if I'll be a successful online instructor?

Successful candidates enjoy writing, collaborating, and communicating through technologies like email, blogs, chat, and wikis. They are perceptive and eager to help students when they identify problems. They are also good time managers and engage in the course regularly and diligently. 

 

What preparation do you look for in an online adjunct?

 For each position, we seek candidates who live the standards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, possess a relevant academic degree, experience with the course material, affinity for online learning and teaching, and familiarity with the mission and Learning Model of BYU-Idaho.

 

How can I improve my candidacy if I am new to online learning?

We would encourage a careful evaluation of your candidacy in each of areas described above, and seek ways of strengthening your preparation where needed. Ideas may include teaching at a local junior college, taking an online course, or participating in a blog or wiki.  

 

What training is required to be a BYU-Idaho online adjunct?

We require that each of our online instructors successfully complete a one month training certification in online teaching.The training is all conducted online.

 

May I apply for more than one position?

Candidates may apply for the number of positions for which they are well-qualified. Successful candidates are very specific about their qualifications for each position.

 

When will I hear back from BYU-Idaho on my application?

We keep postings open indefinitely, and invite individuals to interview as their qualifications match emerging needs for course instructors. In the event that your academic or professional qualifications do not meet our needs, we usually respond within one month.
