Outcomes
(1) After having studied the reading assignments associated with Selections from the Book of Moses, the Book of Abraham, and Genesis, the student should be able to:
- Identify and describe teachings found in these books relating to the plan of salvation.
- Describe the various promises found in the Abrahamic Covenant
- Describe the relationship between the Abrahamic Covenant and the temple ordinance of marriage
(2) After having studied the reading assignment associated with Exodus, the student should be able to:
- Identify and place in proper sequence the events associated with Israel’s exodus from Egypt, the covenant made between the Lord and Israel at Mt. Sinai, Israel’s rebellion, and the giving of the law of Moses.
- Describe the layout of Moses’ tabernacle and how it was to function as a place to perform the ordinances of both the preparatory gospel and the everlasting gospel.
- Identify what happened in the rebellion that led to the loss of the everlasting gospel.
(3) After having studied the reading assignment associated with Numbers, the student should be able to:
- Identify and place in order the various events associated with Israel’s travels and wanderings in the wilderness.
- Describe two events that reveal how the Lord intervened in the lives of the children of Israel for their betterment and how that could be applied to modern Israel.
(4) After having studied the reading assignment associated with Deuteronomy, the student should be able to:
- Identify and outline the various part of the Book of Deuteronomy as a covenant document.
Description
This course will examine the books of Moses and Abraham (from the Pearl of Great Price) and Genesis through Deuteronomy in the Old Testament. This study of the history, doctrine and people will help students understand the significant teachings of the gospel from Pre-mortality up to the entering of the Land of Canaan by the Children of Israel.
