Academic Petition Procedures

 

Students may appeal BYU-Idaho academic policies using approved petitions. Each petition has its own purpose and process. Please read the descriptions provided for each of the petitions below to determine which is appropriate for your particular situation. Each petition goes before a committee which reviews all applicable information in order to approve or deny the request. The student is notified of the committee's decision via the student's BYU-Idaho email account.

 

All petitions should be submitted to the Student Records and Registration Office:

Academic Suspension Petition -  

              This petition is for students who have been placed on academic suspension and  

              are seeking to have the suspension lifted.

 

To access the form:

  1. Log in to your my.byui account
  2. Select the blue "Student" or "Former Student" tab across the top
  3. Select "Academic Forms" (gray task bar on the left side)
  4. Select the Academic Suspension Petition link

Academic Exception Petition*

This petition is for students attempting to withdraw from school or drop a course after the published academic deadlines. Each petition requires the signature of the instructor.  If approved, a $5.00 fee will be charged to the student's account. 

 

Students seeking an exception to an online course will need to email a copy of their statement to their online instructor asking them to send any comments to the following email address srrpetitions@byui.edu.

Academic Renewal Petition*

This petition is for students attempting to have their poor academic work, which is 4 years or older either at BYU-Idaho or another college or university, eliminated from the computation of credits and grade point averages in the student's BYU-Idaho academic record.
