So, what's in it for you?

Being a member of a society can be enriching and rewarding. It allows you to get together with people of similar interests--but different backgrounds--so you rub shoulders with new ideas and viewpoints. Our unique backgrounds and talents often give us different insights that we can share to enrich others.

Since BYUIAS is a student association, you as a student will have an opportunity (if you desire) for leadership. You can help plan meetings, select speakers, decide discussion topics, and organize activities. All members are welcome--and encouraged--to particpate at each meeting, sharing their thoughts and experiences.

Here at BYUIAS you have an opportunity to "expand your mind" as we discuss literature and grad schools,  talk about thinking and learning skills, invite guest speakers to address us, and cover other subjects that interest society members.

Here, you'll find outlets for your academic pursuits, with activities like Knowledge Bowls, Spelling Bees, grad school reviews, student presentations, and faculty lectures.

Here, you'll find students interested in becoming life-long learners, who strive to do well in their course-work, and who "seek learning" by study and faith.

Scholar Members

Those who meet the requirements will receive the

BYU-Idaho Scholar Award,

which consists of:

-- an award ceremony prior to your graduation

-- a certificate of your achievement

-- honor stole* to wear at the graduation ceremony

-- a notation on the graduation program of your achievement**

*   Per the Academic Council's deliberation, they have asked us to consider giving a lapel pin, medal, and/or cord in lieu of the stole. The BYUIAS Officers will be discussing this request on 9 November 2006. Indicate your preference by emailing byuias@byui.edu

** This item was approved by the Academic Council, November 7, 2006.
