Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100 mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

Other photo Editing Programs Other than Photo Shop

By Anya Munro

GIMP

Go into http://www.gimp.org/ to find downloads of GIMP for all operating systems windows, Unix, and MacOSX. After you have down loaded the program you will need to decompress (for those that don’t know what compression is zipping and unzipping or as I use to know it by.) the file before you can install it.

Also on this website you can be find there are articles based on your level of photo editing found under the section tutorial. Another website that has gave a new meaning of photo editing and understanding the different tools and things that can be done is at http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/ .

In respect to the program Photo Shop, GIMP has all of the known features that photo shop does. These features include color balance, dodging and burning, cropping, image sizing, cloning, different fading affects, getting rid of red eye, hue and saturation of colors, contrast. In many respects this program is set up in the same fashion as photo shop or photo shop is fashioned after it. There are many features about GIMP that the more they are explored and learned about the more then does photo Shop have, by exploring the possibilities and learning how they work throw Gimp-Savvy and other website available on the web throw typing in GIMP and searching it out.

EYE OF GNOME

As far as I can tell the system is set up differently but has all of the main components to it, as does GIMP. To Download go to http://www.gnome.org/projects/eog/ . You can also find up dates on it as well. Eye of Gnome is based for Linux, Solaris, BSD and other Unix systems. Eye of Gnome is fairly new within the last few years from the understanding of many articles.

F-SPOT

At this sight http://f-spot.org/Main_Page you can find the download link for F-Spot. This is the main website for F-Spot; it includes ways to find out how to work by going into the to-do list link as well as up dates on new features and much more.

KOLOUR PAINT

Kolour Paint is a paint shop type program that has had multiple release dates. Down loads are on http://sourceforge.net/projects/kolourpaint/ and a short tutorial on how it can be used is on http://sourceforge.net/projects/kolourpaint/ .

GTHUMB

From the research done on gthumb it looks and seems to be similar to photo shop and to GIMP. One download site that was found was at http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Software/518320/gthumb.html .

Over all the best way to learn what can be done in your program is to explore them and have fun in what they can do. Bring in a picture and start to have fun with what options there are. Start with the basics and work your way up. This is how most of the Photo professionals learn a new program. Enjoy have fun doing it. Keep track of what you do and you can post them in blogs or attach them to the main websites of the producers, many have news letters and ways to post what new things have been done in their program.

Go and have fun.
