DI WARS! The Second Engagement
Be the fastest to win $60.00!
Goal: To build a self propelled vessel that can cross the Hart Pool the fastest. This vessel will not carry any passenger or payload.
Rules:
- Maximum dimensions: 3' X 3' and is not intended to carry people across the pool
- Each team has a limit of $10 to spend at the Deseret Industries (DI) or any garage sales for their vessels
- Budget is at team's own expense
- Minor material may be used in the creation including but not limited to glue, straws, screws, adhesive, metal, etc.
- Main structure and motor must be purchased from DI
- String will strung along the length of the pool as a guide for each boat. Each boat will need to have a straw or tube where the string can go through to guide the vessel.
- The majority of the vessel must touch the water; this is a boat race so, have normal boat contact with the water
- Vessels must not use anything that will potentially contaminate the pool i.e. rocket engines, combustible fuels (solid, gas, or liquid), lead base paint or non-waterproof paints.
- Any boats that have such contaminants will be disqualified from the competition and not allowed to be placed in the pool
- Registration deadline is Friday, November 11 at 5:00 PM
- Contact Stuart Boydston if there is anything that is unclear.
- Each team will have 3 attempts*, and whoever is the fastest on average with their 3 attempts will win a cash prize of $60.00 CASH!!!!!
**UPDATES**
Guidance System:
- A 1 foot platform with 1 foot high pole will be at either end of a lane for each vessel.
- A string will be strung along the pool from the two posts
- Team mates will hold the string taught and strait by putting their feet on the platform.
- If you are only a one person team, another will be there to help you.*
- Ships will use straws, eye hooks, or other devices to guide it down the pool.
- The total height of the posts from the water level is roughly 14 inches to allow flexibility to different designs
- To win, the boat must touch the other end of the pool. The posts are not allowed to be out over the water but strait up and down.
- Please make sure that the vessel is built before the competition. Only racing will occur there.
- Bring swim wear.
- Depending on the number of contestants, multiple heats will be conducted. Please confirm that your team will be at the day of the race.
- Best time for each heat will be added to determine the winner.

*Number of attempts may be reduced due to the ammount entries so all can participate.
