"The invitation to repent is rarely a voice of chastisement but rather a loving appeal to turn around and to 're-turn' toward God.  I am amazed at the Savior's encircling arms of mercy and love for the repentant, no matter how selfish the forsaken sin."

Assignment #6

Watch the movie "Forever Strong" and record your responses to the following questions. You may need to rent the movie from a local video store.

Forever Strong Questions:

  1.  There was a sign as the Wasatch Juvenile Detention Center that said “Listen Right.”  How does the honor code help you to listen right?
  2. Coach Gelwix said, “It’s not about rugby, it’s about young men.  It’s not about building a championship team; it’s about building championship boys.  Boys who will be forever strong.”  What are some of the long-term goals the Lord has for students at BYU-Idaho?
  3. Coach Gelwix said, “Let’s focus on where you could end up, not where you were or are.”  Why is it important for us to view our eternal potential the same way the Lord does?
  4. Coach Gelwix taught that it takes discipline to listen to the spirit inside you.  How do the commandments help you to become disciplined?
  5. When Rick first got to the juvenile detention center he was unhappy and didn’t want to be there.  What happened to make him not want to leave when his dad came to pick him up?  What are some tools you will use at BYU-Idaho to be happier?
  6. Rick says about his friend Kurt, “He was a real friend.  If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be on this team.  He made me want to be a better person.”  How do good friends influence us, and how can we influence others for good?
  7. At first Rick doesn’t understand all of the rules set in place.  What are some of the things that changed Rick’s heart and made him want to be a part of the Highland rugby team?  What are some of the things you can do or are doing to change and want to come back to be a part of BYU-Idaho?
  8. What are some feelings or impressions that you had while watching the movie?
  9. The traditions of the past meant a lot to Highland rugby.  How can we show gratitude to those who make a university like BYU-Idaho possible for us to come to?
