BYU-Idaho Terminology Guide
This guide contains a list of terminology specific to BYU–Idaho. Since clear communication is essential in everything we do, proper usage of these terms will give consistency and accuracy to written publications, correspondence, displays, and other such items produced by the university.
Academic disciplines often use a particular style guide, such as the Associated Press Style Guide for journalists. Please consult with your department head for style preference. Otherwise reference The Chicago Manual of Style or The Gregg Reference Manual for questions regarding grammar, punctuation, and general writing style that have not been addressed in this guide. No matter what style guide your department prefers, be consistent in applying it throughout the document.
For references relating to terminology used within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Style Guide for Publications of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been used with permission.
The standard reference for spelling, definitions, and end-of-line hyphenations is the latest edition of the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.
