Forms Part II


 

There are six steps to setting up a form:

 

  1. Set up the rest of the page except for the form.
  2. Download the file.
  3. Copy/paste the elements of the form into Notepad (on PC).
  4. Save the file.
  5. Upload the file.
  6. Test the form.

 

Steps 1 & 2

 

Create the page you want the form to be on in the Web Editor. The page needs to be completely build except for the form. Save a backup copy (ie- appForm2.htm), then click the open button on the tool bar and select the file to download. Click the download button and select the "Save to disk " option. The file will appear on your desktop or wherever your downloaded files save to.

 

Step 3

 

Right-click the file and select Open with- Notepad (on PC). This will open a window full of HTML code. Click Edit- Find, on the menu bar. Then type "mainbody1" this will take you to the top of the main body of the page. If you scroll down from here you should recognize the text that you typed in before downloading the page. Find the place where you want the form to go, then click on one of the links below and copy/paste the source code into the file at this position:


WARNING: There are four required field names. DO NOT change or delete them from the form or your form wont work!


 

The following are the different types of fields your form can have. Insert them between the "above" and "below" comment tags. You will need to give each field a name in quotation marks or the form won't process them. Names cannot have spaces! So: name="Your Name" doesn't work, but: name="YourName" does.

Steps 4 & 5

 

Save the file (File- Save) then get back into the web editor. Click the Open button, then the upload button. Browse to the file then click upload. If asked about overwriting click "yes" or "ok."

 

Step 6

 

Open a new browser window or tab and go to the URL (Address) of the page with the form. Fill out and submit the form then check the email it was sent to. If the message appears within a few minutes then you have created the form correctly. If not, you will have to redo steps 2-5. (Remember your backup copy? Make a new copy and remake the form.)
