| OBJECTIVES: | 1. Obtain a database overview: history, environment, and development. 2. Learn fundamental semantic modeling concepts 3. Demonstrate the ability to build a well-designed database structure (schema) 4. Understand how a database management system works 5. Analyze modeling concepts, including normalization, and study the process of converting semantic models to relational models. 6. Introduce the data definition and relational query languages (DDL and SQL) , object oriented databases, and integrated applications, and achieve basic proficiency in them. 7. Demonstrate the ability to build an application using current database technology. 8. Address administrative, management, and technical issues with respect to security/integrity and distributed databases |
