| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | Practical experience working in a math intensive industry. | ||
| DESCRIPTION: | This course is intended to give applied math majors experience working in a math intensive industry. Students will work for private industry or government in a temporary position that requires them to apply some of the mathematics they have learned and/or to learn new mathematics. | ||
| TOPICS: | Will vary depending on the type of work the employer requires of the student. | ||
| OBJECTIVES: | Students will become acquainted with how mathematics is used in private industry or government and experience working as a professional mathematician. They will establish relationships with professionals in math related fields that will aid them in finding employment after graduation. | ||
| REQUIREMENTS: | A final written report, detailing the work experience and knowledge gained. Possibly, some readings will be assigned. Also, an oral report to students and faculty may be required. | ||
| PREREQUISITES: | Approval of the department internship coordinator. | ||
