| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | The course prepares the student for field experience within a piano studio teaching situation, not only acquainting the student with a general framework of the extant literature for the piano (with an emphasis on the intermediate teaching literature) but also introducing the student to a variety of pedagogical approaches. The course is designed primarily for majors. However, any student meeting the course prerequisite is welcome. Grades are prorated accordingly. |

| TOPICS: | The class will be presented in the form of lectures (both from the instructor and students) with appropriate demonstration of musical examples from the literature of the piano. | ||
| OBJECTIVES: | Students will develop stylistic understanding of the pedagogical literature available for intermediate piano teaching. |

| REQUIREMENTS: | Complete assignments and examinations for each of four units. |

| PREREQUISITES: | Designed primarily for piano pedagogy majors, students enrolled in the course should have a performance competency level that will enable them to adequately participate both in performance and basic theoretical analysis of the music. The course is open to non-majors with an interest in teaching in the home. | ||
