| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | As an observer, students will attend private applied lessons (approximately two a week) taught by various instructors. These are to include observing lessons taught corresponding to the student's major area of emphasis as well as other settings, both instrumental and vocal. Four times during the semester (monthly), all students registered for the class will meet together to discuss their observations and insights | ||

| OBJECTIVES: | This course is designed to provide the student with the opportunity of closely observing the applied teaching/learning process in a variety of settings. As students tend to teach basically as they were taught, this course strives to expand the student’s exposure to the wide variety of applied teaching techniques being used by different teachers and foster creative thought as to how these techniques might be incorporated in the student’s own teaching . | ||
| REQUIREMENTS: | 1) Attendance as an observer at approximately two private applied lessons each week. 2) A written assessment of teaching strategies observed in each lesson, to be kept in a response journal. 3) Attendance at four (monthly) hour-long seminars where students will exchange and discuss experiences |
