| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | Orchestral and band instruments are discussed, demonstrated, writing techniques discussed and practiced. Students are required to score excerpts for each of five instrument sections: string, woodwind, brass, percussion, and saxophone. Their projects are performed and discussed in class. A final project of scoring for either a symphony or concert band concludes the semester. | ||

Orchestral and band instruments are discussed, demonstrated, writing techniques discussed and practiced. | OBJECTIVES: | Musicians are often required to take a melody and make it work for orchestra, band, choir, marching band, or other ensemble. Teachers and ensemble leaders frequently have to take an existing score and make it work for their particular ensemble. Scoring and Arranging is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and opportunity to develop the skills necessary to facilitate these needs. | ||
| REQUIREMENTS: | Preparatory homework as assigned Scoring projects: string sections, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and saxophone Final project: full score for symphony or concert band |
