DESCRIPTION: Studies concentrate on solo and small ensemble literature with pedagogical application.
TOPICS: Studies concentrate on solo and small ensemble literature within the following guidelines and categories: pedagogical application, i.e., sequential appropriateness for age or developmental level and elements within a composition that may teach specific fundamental or advanced techniques; chamber music that may be similarly useful; and standard repertoire of which students should be aware.
OBJECTIVES: Awareness of music literature specific to a discipline is developed somewhat within the student's own applied music requirements either from lessons or masterclasses. However, most of this has been in regards to the student's own needs and ability. In order for a teacher to be highly successful, tools for teaching in numerous situations must be available. Students learn pedagogical applications for standard solo and chamber repertoire. They become aware of how to make quality judgments concerning music and are prepared to continue to develop on their own initiative.
