CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Choral Practicum is a preparatory course for Choral Education majors and minors in developing skills of conducting and rehearsal strategies through applied practice.
DESCRIPTION: Choral Practicum is a preparatory course for Choral Education majors and minors in developing skills of conducting and rehearsal strategies through applied practice.
TOPICS: Areas of expected proficiency include conducting the choral ensemble, rehearsal strategies for the choral conductor, music and the "whole body" experience, motivation through gesture, and score preparation.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this course is to provide prospective choral educators an opportunity to conduct and rehearse ensembles under the guidance of a master teacher in preparation for "real-life" job and service experience.
REQUIREMENTS: Class attendance is required of all participants. Students must be willing to assume the responsibilities of leadership and preparation for all duties associated with conducting an ensemble.
PREREQUISITES: Students must successfully pass Music 308 (Conducting) prior to enrolling in this course.
OTHER: By appointment and with the permission of the Director of Choral Activities and Department Chair, participation as an assistant conductor for one of the Department of Music choral ensembles may fulfill part of the requirements of this course.
