| TOPICS: |
Diatonic and chromatic harmonization of traditional folk and pop materials with some excerpts from classics; introduction to jazz harmony and 20th Century techniques, with focus on developng abiity to improvise and create. |
| OBJECTIVES: |
Apply concepts learned in music theory to small pieces; develop skill of creating modulations; utilize a variety of accompaniment patterns appropriately; improvise in a variety of idioms; illustrate basic understanding of pop and jazz harmony. |
| REQUIREMENTS: |
Class focuses on daily assignments and unit projects of a practical nature; no memorization examinations included. |
| PREREQUISITES: |
Intermediate to advanced standing as a pianist; completion of two semesters of music theory classes. |
