CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A one to two-semester capstone course for Bachelor of Musical Arts - Vocal students involving faculty-supervised private studio teaching and observational field experience.
DESCRIPTION: A one to two-semester capstone course for Bachelor of Arts - Vocal students involving faculty-supervised incorporating private studio teaching and observational field experience.
TOPICS: Teaching strategies in the voice studio, administration of private vocal instruction, student assessment, and professional portfolio development.
OBJECTIVES: This course is a valid teaching experience during the senior year of academic work at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Students enrolled in this course will be assigned private voice students by the Department of Music. Mentoring will be provided by qualified members of the voice faculty.
REQUIREMENTS: Maintain a successful one or two-semester private voice studio at the discretion of the director of Vocal Studies, complete a professional portfolio, observe and evaluate at least three successful private voice instructors, participate in weekly voice master class, and attend weekly seminar discussions with voice mentor.
PREREQUISITES: Must be a senior Bachelor of Arts: Vocal Music Major. Permission of the instructor is required. Some students may be asked to participate in one or two semesters during their senior year.
