CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This block course provides the student experience in hospital and community settings in order to apply the nursing process, using the Conceptual Framework as a guide, in specialized assessing and caring for the child-bearing family especially the maternal/newborn population.

TOPICS:
OBJECTIVES: Nurse Agency (Stewardship, laws and opposites, caring relationships, human functionality, professionalism and knowledge, incorporating critical thinking, the health continuum, environment, patient agency, and the nursing process)

1. Demonstrate progress in personal and professional stewardship goals in caring for the child-bearing family through studying diagnostic tests, nutrition, pharmacology, and using asepsis appropriately.

2. Examine, evaluate, and respect agency in professional roles and ethical dilemmas which may affect the ability to implement and/or accomplish the plan of care by using leadership/delegation and communication/thinking.

3. Develop and maintain a caring relationship through empathy, acceptance, and congruence by providing emotional safety and utilizing therapeutic communication and teaching.

4. Apply knowledge and skills to implement the standard of care using asepsis and physical safety for patients experiencing women's health issues, pregnancy, labor, and delivery and
