GENERAL EDUCATION: This course fulfills a General Education - Physical Science requirement.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This laboratory is designed to be taken concurrently with Meteorology Ph 137 and will provide experience in observing and understanding basic weather principles.
DESCRIPTION:
TOPICS: Temperature, pressure, relative humidity, wind, fronts, precipitation, forecasting, thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, clouds, and internet experiences.
OBJECTIVES: Ph 137L introduces students to the scientific approach to making observations. The basic elements of weather will be observed, recorded, and compared with each other. Pre and post frontal conditions will be observed along with the existing characteristics. Severe storms will be studied along with safety precautions associated with each existing storm. Students will compare their observations to see how they relate to the conditions existing on the weather station in the front hall of the Romney Science building.
REQUIREMENTS: Scientific calculators (graphing-calculators are not required) will be utilized and the students must procure their own. Grades will be determined by attendance, participation, projects, group-working and completion of the laboratory assignments.
