GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A sociological approach to the dilemma of power, economic and status differentiations in American society.
DESCRIPTION: An analysis of social stratification in American life. A topical approach may be used, i.e. power, slavery, class, economics, etc.
TOPICS: Theory, types, dimensions of social stratification will be discussed.
OBJECTIVES: To develop in students an understanding of the role of stratification in Amercian life.
REQUIREMENTS: The course will consist of lecture and discussions relative to stratification readings or a text will be required along with a significant term paper. Two exams will be administered.
PREREQUISITES: Soc 111 and 112 strongly recommended.
