GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A course designed to teach aspiring high school teachers and designers the fundamentals of scenic design.
DESCRIPTION: A course designed to teach prospective high school drama teachers and aspiring design students the fundamentals of scenic design. Course content will include philosophies of scene design through the ages, design elements and practical skills. Students will be required to read at least four scripts and create designs for them. The final project is practical and cumulative.
TOPICS: Topics wil include elements of design, research, basic rendering, basic model building, philosophies of scene design.
OBJECTIVES: Each student will gain a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of scenic design and will begin to develop an aesthetic. Students will be able to think spatially and conceptually, preparatory to designing as high school teachers or students desiring to pursue a career in scene design.
REQUIREMENTS: Attendance is mandatory. The final project, a complete design (either rendered or built as a model) will account for 65% of final grade. Other assignments thoughout the semester will account for the remainder of this grade.
PREREQUISITES: Credit only. TA 219: Into to Technical theatre or consent of the instructor.
OTHER: Basic art supplies will need to be acquired. A suggested list will be provided.
