TOPICS:
OBJECTIVES: Through a framework of facts, principles, and models, the student will be able to identify and analyze the basic economic problems which every society face. The students will be able to explain how a mixed economy such as the U.S. solves these problems. The course will introduce the student to the aggregate variables used in simple models of the U.S. economy. Using these models, the student will be able to predict and explain the effects of changes on the U.S. as well as other economies. In addition to aiding in passing this course, a mastery of the concepts and ideas will assist the student in making informed decisions regarding current economic issues. Without a basic understanding of economics, issues such as budget deficits, taxes, and foreign trade, cannot be understood.
