|CATALOG DESCRIPTION:||This movement course will strengthen the performance skills of actors, singers, and dancers by refining kinesthetic awareness and nonverbal expressiveness.|
|DESCRIPTION:||This course is designed to help each student become more aware of his/her body's movement and expressive potential. Dance elements of time, space and motion are explored and applied to the work of actors, directors, singers and dancers. Development of kinesthetic awareness and physical control are essential components of this course.|
|TOPICS:||Exercises for strength, flexibility and control; alignment; choreographic components; nonverbal communication; rhythm; space; movement characteristics and styles.|
|OBJECTIVES:||Whether beginning or advanced, the course will enhance each student's ability to communicate purpose, feeling, and intent by nonverbal means. Each student will memorize a series of exercises to use as a physical warm-up before any rehearsal or audition. Movement combinations and dances will be taught with the expectation that each student will master their execution and performance.|
|REQUIREMENTS:||Daily class attendance is mandatory - studio sessions cannot be duplicated in any other way. Generally there are five written exams over lecture and reading material and weekly practical quizzes over movement/dance material learned in class.|
|OTHER:||Students with an emphasis in Theatre are required to take either TA 225: Stage Dialects or TA 233: Movement for Theatre.
Recommended for students transferring to a four-year performance program.
