CATALOG DESCRIPTION: An introduction to culture, literature, and grammatical concerns for advanced speakers through the study of Spanish language poems, essays, short stories, plays, and novels.
DESCRIPTION: A study of Spanish-language poems, essays, short stories, plays, novels, culture, and language. Practice of language and principles leading to understanding and appreciation of literary genres.
TOPICS: Principles for analyzing literature, study of symbols, language, culture, word histories, historical background, etc., for advanced non-native speakers.
OBJECTIVES: To give students tools and abilities to analyze and enjoy literature on their own. Students completing this course should be able to speak at advanced low level and appreciate varied literary forms.
REQUIREMENTS: Attendance, oral participation and presentations in class, papers, extensive readings, exams (including short essay).
PREREQUISITES: Entry level for returned missionaries and similarly advanced non-natives who learned Spanish outside of the classroom. Native speakers should enroll in Spanish 321.
OTHER: Native speakers should take Spanish 321.
