|CATALOG DESCRIPTION:||This course focuses on developing accounting analysis and problem solving skills. The three main tools used in this course are Excel, VBA in Excel, and QuickBooks. Students are asked to work from structured to unstructured problems and cases.|
|DESCRIPTION:||The first section begins by solving structured accounting problems using Excel. Accounting models are then introduced as a means of developing frameworks and reusable solutions to solve problems. Finally, students are asked to develop solutions to accounting cases.
The second section develops skills in solving Time Value of Money (TVM) problems. Students learn the main TVM functions in Excel and develop models to handle single and multi-step solutions.
The third section develops skills in building custom procedures and functions in Excel to provide customized solutions and Excel applications. Students learn the fundamentals of programming including sequence, selection, and iteration.
The final section presents an accounting case and asks the students to produce financial statements using the QuickBooks software. Students are asked to learn QuickBooks as they solve a case study problem.
