CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Selection, adjustment, and care of small engines. Small engine theory and procedures for complete small engine overhaul.
DESCRIPTION: In agriculture there is a great need to know how to maintain and repair equipment. Rapid mechanization of agriculture in the last generation or so has made the shop work a larger and more essential part of agriculture operations than ever before. Those in agriculture are realizing that unless they maintain, repair and know how to use the equipment available to the maximum, their productivity will decrease which will in turn decrease their profits.
TOPICS: Safety precautions, maintenance, troubleshooting and storage. Single-cylinder air cooled engines. Basic engine testing. Lubrication and cooling systems. electrical fundamentals and ignition, fuel feed, carbureation and speed. Engine measurements, disassembly instructions and precautions. Two and four stroke cycle engine service and overhaul. Battery and starter systems. Charging systems and alternator testing.
OBJECTIVES: Introduce students to the service, repair and overhaul of small gasoline 4 stroke engines which are used extensively in the industry today.
