AG HYDRAULICS
CLASS CODE: AGSYS 360 CREDITS:  2
DIVISION: AGRICULTURAL AND LIFE SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT: AGRICULTURE BUSINESS SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A study of the fundamental principles governing the transmission and control of fluid power hydraulics. The course includes a study of the basic components of hydraulic systems and how they are combined to build up various circuits.
DESCRIPTION: The study of hydraulics pertaining to farm power machinery has never been more important than it is today. Agriculture equipment has some of the most complex hydraulic uses today. Hydraulics are used in power steering, power brakes, remote controls, three point hitches, hydraulic clutches, loader brackets, transmissions, electronic/hydraulic controls, motors, etc. Almost all pieces of equipment today incorporate hydraulics. Today, a knowledge of hydraulics is a must if power machinery is going to be managed, serviced, and repaired efficiently. This class will teach the hydraulic principles, application, operation, inspection, testing, servicing, and repair of hydraulics as it relates to agriculture machinery.
TOPICS: Safety. Principles of hydraulics. Pumps, valves, cylinders, motors, accumulators, filters, lines, couplers, seals and fluids. General maintenance, diagnosis and testing. Trouble shooting.
OBJECTIVES: To teach the hydraulic principles, application, operation, inspection, testing, servicing, and repair of hydraulics. Today a knowledge of hydraulics is a must if power machinery is going to be managed, serviced, and repaired efficiently.
