|CATALOG DESCRIPTION:||Lab fees, $25 for material costs. A general welding course which includes Oxyacetylene welding, Oxyfuel Cutting (OFC), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), in the flat and horizontal positions. Includes safety procedures, electrode identification; focuses on both theory and practice.
|DESCRIPTION:||A course in beginning electric welding designed to teach the fundamentals of arc welding, power sources, electrodes, oxyfuel cutting, welding and an introduction to weld symbols, metallurgy, and metal identification.|

|OBJECTIVES:||Students will have a complete understanding of OFC, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW, in the flat and horizontal positions. This course will prepare the student technically and physically to successfully work in the welding industry requiring these specific skills.
1. Each student will be able to use the O.F.C. unit for the cutting operations in a safe manner.
2. Each student will be able to operate the electric arc welding units for welding in the flat and horizontal positions.
3. Each student will be able to identify and use the AWS classification of carbon steel electrodes in selecting the correct electrode for the job.
4. Each student will be able to read and understand the AWS Standard Welding Symbols Chart.
5. Each student will be able to put his welding skill to work in a safe manner.

b. Tests and Quizzes
1. Written: Tests and quizzes will be given covering reading, lecture/discussion, and lab assignments, and will consist of problem-solving, essay, and multiple choice questions.
2. Skills Tests: Skills tests will consist of problem-solving exercises taken from daily lab assignments.
