CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Study of reproduction in cattle, sheep, horses and pigs. Applied laboratory emphasis on cattle. Instruction in basic reproductive anatomy, and the processes involved in prenatal development, puberty, conception and parturition. Application of reproductive principles as used in estrus synchronization, insemination, ultrasonography and embryo transfer.

TOPICS: Reproductive tract anatomy, hormonal regulation of reproduction, puberty, estrous cycle, spermatogenesis, reproductive behavior, fertilization, gestation, parturition, estrus synchronization, introductions to ultrasonography, pregnancy diagnosis and embryo transfer.
OBJECTIVES: Provide students in animal agriculture with a foundation in reproductive principles and demonstrate how livestock producers can control reproduction processes for economic gain.

OTHER: Lab sessions will involve working with live cattle. Coveralls, waterproof boots and warm clothing are recommended.
