TOPICS: Mendellian Inheritance, Population Genetics, Breeding Values, Heritability, Rate of Genetic Change, Genetic Evaluations, Trait Selection, Mating Systems, Heterosis & Crossbreeding Schemes, Computer Simulations of Genetic Choices, Effects of Biotechnology in Animal Breeding
OBJECTIVES: Instruct students about basic principles of genetic inheritance, trait selection in livestock species, various mating systems used in industry to produce livestock. Students will be able to use genetic principles in a practical livestock setting.
