CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Production practices in the selection, care and evaluation of horses.
DESCRIPTION: A course designed to provide students with better understanding of the modern equine industry. Students will learn principles of horse health, breeds of horses, their characteristics, and their uses, as well as equine behavior, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and reproduction.
TOPICS: Horse breeds, characteristics and uses, equine behavor and training, equine health, including prevention and treatment of diseases, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and reproduction.
OBJECTIVES: Students will show competencies by mastering horse related skills and written evaluations.
REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate ability to perform horse related skills, ie. - trimming of feet, feeding, handling, health care, etc., competencies on written exams. (See class syllabus)
