| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | This course is designed to help nursing students understand the basic principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and the clinical application of drugs. The mechanisms of drug action are emphasized to correlate physiological and pharmacological principles. (Winter) | ||
| DESCRIPTION: | This course is designed to help nursing students understand the basic principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and the clinical application of drugs. The mechanisms of drug action are emphasized to correlate physiological and pharmacological principles. | ||
| TOPICS: | Basic principles of pharmacology including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The major classification of drugs are discussed including: CNS drugs, analgesics (opiates and NSAID's), autonomic, cardiovascular and renal drugs, psychopharmacology, antibiotic and chemotherapy. | ||
| OBJECTIVES: | The course will help nursing and other allied health students understand and correlate the mechanisms of drug action with physiological principles. Students will be taught to recognize side effects and untoward events. | ||

| PREREQUISITES: | BIO 264 & 265. Some chemistry background is helpful. | ||
