CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This class is designed to promote an increased understanding in working with and teaching preschool aged children. Philosophy, theory and model underlying early childhood education and its application in the classroom. Basic competencies required for the Child Development Associate (C.D.A.) emphasized. This will be a screening class for the Professional Preschool Education major.

Philosophy, theory and model underlying early childhood education and its application in the classroom. Basic competencies required for the Child Development Associate (C.D.A.) emphasized. This will be a screening class for the Professional Preschool Education major.
TOPICS: Lesson Plan, Discipline, Identifying and Responding to Child Abuse and Molestation, Maintaining a Safe Classroom, Maintaining a Healthy Classroom, Establishing a Learning Environment, Advancing Physical Skills, Advancing Cognitive Skills, Advancing Communication Skills, Advancing Creative Skills, Building a Positive Self-Concept, Promoting Social Skills, Providing Guidance, Promoting Family Involvement, Providing Program Management, and Promoting Professionalism
OBJECTIVES: Students will acquire fundamental skills in preschool curriculum development, support and lead teaching skills, and child guidance.
REQUIREMENTS: Students will write and implement several preschool lesson plans. They will write anecdotal records reflecting application of child guidance principles.
PREREQUISITES: ECSE 100. Instructor's approval. ECSE 230 should be taken concurrently.
