CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Internet and Web overview. Introduction to human-computer interaction. Information architecture. Client-server computing with client-side and server-side programming. (Fulfills General Education Basic Skills requirement for CS majors.)
DESCRIPTION:
TOPICS: Internet and Web basics; HTML overview; HTML forms; CGI, Perl; Web usability; Information archetecture; JavaScript.
OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this course are to teach: 1. Requirements specification and design prior to constructing a Web site and developing software. 2. Elements of effective Web design including information architecture and usability. 3. Web programming fundamentals, such that the students will be prepared to adapt as the Web continues to rapidly evolve. 4. Skills in procedural and object based programming.
REQUIREMENTS: Class attendance is required but is not necessarily part of the grade. Each student is required to read assigned portions of the textbook(s). Access to computers in the Linux computer lab is required to complete homework assignments.
PREREQUISITES: CS 144 or CS 165
