| CATALOG DESCRIPTION: | A survey of subsharan African cultures including prehistoric, colonial, and tribal Africa today. | ||
| DESCRIPTION: | A survey of subsharan African cultures including prehistoric, colonial, and tribal Africa today. | ||
| TOPICS: | Topics will include the African fossil record, prehistoric civilizations, the colonial period and its influence on modern African and tribal cultures of the immediate past and the present. | ||
| OBJECTIVES: | Students will gain an understanding of historic cultures in Africa and an appreciation of diverse and threatened cultures in Africa today. | ||
| REQUIREMENTS: | Students will be prepared to discuss in seminar a variety of assigned topics. Students will also be required to develop and complete a "learning contract". Contracts will be presented in class and/or in an acceptable journal format. | ||
| PREREQUISITES: | Anthropology 101 is recommended. | ||
| OTHER: | 2 Saturday field trips may be required. | ||
