CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Builds expertise for developing, designing and editing professional documents. Provides students both advanced instruction and opportunities for "real-world" applications. (Culminating class for English Major/Professional Writing Emphasis.)
DESCRIPTION: Builds expertise for developing, designing and editing professional documents. Provides students both advanced instruction and opportunities for "real-world" applications. (Culminating class for English Major/Professional Writing Emphasis.)
TOPICS: Advanced editing; document design; current usage; style.
OBJECTIVES:

  1. Create technical documents appropriate for business, medicine, and industry.
  2. Revise and edit documents based on purpose, audience, message, style, and tone.
  3. Apply principles of design, format, and layout.
  4. Gain practical editing and writing experience in both classroom and "real world" situations.
  5. Understand the collaborative roles of technical writers and editors.
  6. Apply fundamentals of publishing (e.g. working with desktop software, galley proofs, and publishers).
REQUIREMENTS: Complete readings, exercises, assignments, presentations, various in-class and out-of-class projects. Pass an in-class editing test.
PREREQUISITES: English 312 or 316.
