GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A survey of Hispanic History from the conquest to the Present day; selected cultural topics. Several basic political and economic issues covered as well.
DESCRIPTION: A general historical coverage requiring knowledge of the timeline, basic historical events; considerable attention to the student paper and student book report. Class discussion of pertinent issues. One literary--cultural topic covered in more detail.
TOPICS: We shall review basic text book material and discuss the Conquista, the Administration of the Colonies under Spain, relations with Europe and some of the leading Liberators and Caudillos. The ongoing relationship of Latin America will also be of concern. Some cultural discussion.
OBJECTIVES: We require student participation and preparation in order to preepare students adequately for teaching and graduate study. A paper, an oral report, a book report.
REQUIREMENTS: Students will be required to read 1,000+ evaluated pages, write a 10 page paper, give an oral presentation using Power Point, and know the basic work of 25 significant scholars in the field.
PREREQUISITES: No prerequisites, but students are encouraged to have Hist 201-202 and Hist 300. All students in 300 level courses will be expected to know how to research, write and document a basic historical essay.
