CATALOG DESCRIPTION: An overview of German Civilization and Culture, including brief historical events, governmental structure, and major personalities.
DESCRIPTION: A survey from antiquity to modern times, laying stress upon 20th and 21st century culture, geography and government.
TOPICS: An overview of German culture, language and history. Comparison with English language and in particular American culture.
OBJECTIVES: Students finishing this course: Should understand the impact of German culture upon their own culture. Be aware of why other countries, people act, and think differently. Have a limited knowledge of German government, culture and history.
REQUIREMENTS: Attendance, participation in class and timely completion of assignments. Able to work at a satisfactory level in German.
