CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on the development of oral fluency, discourse grammar and advanced reading skills, through reading and discussion of Chinese newspaper articles.
DESCRIPTION: Students will read from Chinese newspapers, primarily in simplified Chinese characters. Class discussion will contribute to expansion of vocabulary and improved oral fluency. Discourse grammar will be developed and improved through the writing of compositions in Chinese.
TOPICS: Topics will vary but will include readings on life in contempary China.
OBJECTIVES: Students will improve oral fluency through discussion of advanced readings. They will improve discourse garmmar through reading advanced texts and composing various types of prose. Students will be able to function from Intermediate Mid to Intermediate High levels in the four skills based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS: Reading of assigned materials, participation in class discussions, research and writing essays.
PREREQUISITES: Chinese 202 with C or better or consent of instructor.
