CATALOG DESCRIPTION: As a continuation of Chinese 301, this course focuses on the development of oral fluency, discourse grammar and advanced reading skills, especially through the study of vernacular Chinese literature.
DESCRIPTION: Students will read from a variety of sources, in both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Class discussion will contribute to expansion of vocabulary and improved oral fluency. Discourse grammar will be developed and improved through the writing of compositions in Chinese.
TOPICS: Topics will vary.
OBJECTIVES: Students will improve oral fluency through discussion of advanced readings. They will improve discourse grammar through reading advanced texts and composing various types of prose. Students will be able to function from Intermediate High to Advanced levels in the four skills based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS: Reading of assigned materials, participation in class discussions, research and writing essays.
PREREQUISITES: Chinese 301 with a grade of C or better or consent of Instructor.
